Quotations

Most of the reference pages end with a short quotation, (sometimes even with a vague connection to the topic)
Here's a few more below... Do feel free to add any other good quotes you have to this thread - I'll use it for ideas when adding new pages.

The aim of science is not to open the door to infinite wisdom but to set a limit to infinite error

The only people for me are the mad ones -- the ones who are mad to live,

the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn
like fabulous yellow Roman candles.
-- Jack Kerouac, "On the Road"

Never appeal to a man's "better nature."  He may not have one.
Invoking his self-interest gives you more leverage.

Re: Quotations

The more sophisticated our communications technology, the less able we are to communicate. Prime examples:
•  Automated telephone answering service numbers.
•  Web searches that answer queries about equipment problems by taking you to sites that want to sell you more equipment or give you "the best deal".

Re: Quotations

Quotes by Theodore Roosevelt.

The only people who never make a mistake are the people who never do anything.

To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.

Re: Quotations

simon i have just discovered your site. I hate most sites but yours is a pleasure to use.
I like your taste in quotes and offer this one as a generic answer for your posters.
"All you have to do is hit the right keys at the right
time and the instrument plays itself."
                Johann Sebastian Bach
While we still have keyboards!
PS Andre Previn should have told Eric Morecambe

Insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result each time.
Insanity is caused by doing the same thing over again and getting a different result each time.
