An extra character is pasted when I copy-paste

When I copy a line like this: dir "C:\Users\pwric\Documents\KROGER in-store shopping", an extra character is inserted between the dir and the quotation character. The result is invalid syntax. To do the copy-paste I copy from a text document in Windows notepad, then in the command window I right-click the title bar and choose edit, then choose paste from the fly-out list.

Sounds familiar. Have you checked the coding type of the file you use with Notepad? It's noted in the lower-right corner of the window. To change the coding of a txt file, use Save As and in the Coding drop-down choose UTF-8.

Batch plays way nicer with ANSI.
